A core team of health district employees maintain a strong public health infrastructure through training and exercise to be better prepared to respond to incidents that threaten the public’s health and well-being. We perform simulated “Adverse Event” training exercises annually with our regional partners.
The MRC is a group of non-medical and medical volunteer members that is organized and trained to support public health’s response to a wide range of challenges from providing health and safety education to disaster response. You can participate in our response to public health emergencies by joining the Miami County Medical Reserve Corps. The Miami County Communication Center in conjunction with Hyper-Reach Emergency Notification Systems has instituted the Miami County Emergency Notification System (MCENS) which allows 911 to quickly send a message to residents in a specific area informing them of an emergency situation that may require action on their part. The system is designed to send thousands of calls or messages simultaneously. The message informs residents of what emergency is occurring and what steps they need to take.
All hardwired (land-line) telephones in Miami County are automatically listed to receive these alerts; however, there is no central registry of mobile (cell) telephones so individuals need to register them in order to receive alerts. This process also applies to weather alerts.
