Spring has officially arrived and already we’re thinking of our summer vacations, but if you have a child that will be entering kindergarten next year, it’s time to plan ahead. There is more to kindergarten readiness than book bags, backpacks, and new clothes. The elementary schools have begun sending out information about pre-kindergarten registrations including the need for each child to receive a physical examination. It’s not too early to have your child’s physical examination completed and avoid the rush.
The Miami County Health District offers physical examinations for all children from birth through age 21. Visits to the Health District’s Well Child Clinic include height and weight, developmental screenings, laboratory testing, vision and hearing screenings, and health education, as well as a complete physical examination. These exams are needed to rule out a medical condition that could affect your child’s ability to learn.
So while you are gathering all of the material things that will help your child be successful in school, don’t forget the most important item of all…..your child’s health.
To schedule a pre-school physical for your child, contact the Miami County Health District by calling (937) 440-5421 or 440-5436. The charges for the services at the Health District’s Well Child Clinic are based on a sliding fee scale according to income and family size. Medicaid and Medicaid Managed Care plans, including Care Source, Molina and Amerigroup, are also accepted. The Well Child Clinic is located at 510 W. Water Street, Suite 130, in downtown Troy.
